Step back in time as you sail aboard Providence, a historical tall ship with stories to share from its journeys around the world. Built in 1903, she is the oldest working vessel in BC waters and draws admirers wherever she goes. This 3.5-hour day sail in Port Renfrew is a short, hands-on sailing course designed to introduce you to the fundamentals of sailing. Before your trip, you’ll receive learning materials to review, helping you get the most out of your time on the water. Onboard, you’ll actively participate as crew—steering, trimming sails, and learning how wind and boat work together under the guidance of an experienced instructor. No prior experience is required. With small group sizes and a focus on learning by doing, this is an engaging and practical introduction to sailing on Vancouver Island’s rugged west coast.

A Sail Canada instructor will guide you through an Introduction to Sailing. Take in the breathtaking scenery of the Salish Sea on an afternoon voyage aboard the 40 ft sail boat ‘Desiderata’. Travel south between Sidney and James Island, learning tack and teamwork skills. Then as you turn downwind, relax and enjoy the wind at your back.

Come aboard a zodiac for an adventure that offers amazing scenery. This high speed 18ft open RIB (ridged inflatable boat) can zip through the calm waters of the Southern Gulf Islands. Stop on the smaller islands to explore, hike the island and enjoy a beach picnic while taking in the sunset.
